Privacy policy
Effective October 3, 2026
myfainance is a small personal-finance app run by an individual, not a company. This page explains, in plain language, what it stores about you and what it does with it. The short version: it stores what you type in so it can show it back to you, and nothing else happens with it.
What we store
- Your account: your email address, a one-way hash of your password (the password itself can't be recovered, even by us), your two-factor authentication settings and recovery codes, and the public half of any passkeys you add.
- What you enter: accounts, balances, transactions, categories, bills, budgets, envelopes, reimbursements and your pay schedule. Only you and members of your household can see it.
- Imports: text you paste or files you upload are used to build the import review. Uploaded files are never saved, and pasted text is deleted once you import or cancel.
What we don't store
- Bank usernames or passwords. myfainance never connects to your bank.
- Full bank or card account numbers.
- Payment details. The service is free and there's nothing to pay for.
Visits to the public pages
When someone who isn't signed in opens the home or help page, we count the visit. Only the day, the page,
the website that linked to it, and any tag in the link (like ?ref=) are recorded. No IP address,
cookie or browser details are kept, so these counts can't be tied to you.
Cookies
myfainance only uses cookies it needs to work: keeping you signed in, remembering a device you've trusted for two-factor sign-in, protecting forms against forgery, and showing one-time messages after you save something. There are no advertising, analytics or third-party cookies, and no third-party scripts.
How your data is used
Your data is used only to run the app for you: calculating balances and showing your pages. It is never sold, rented, shared with advertisers, or used to train AI models. We don't look at your financial data except when needed to fix a problem you've reported or to keep the service secure.
Where it's kept and how it's protected
- The app and database are hosted on Microsoft Azure. Data is encrypted on its way to and from your browser (HTTPS) and while stored (Azure SQL encryption at rest, including backups).
- Two-factor authentication is required on every account, and every request is limited to your own household's data.
- Azure may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and request times, for security and troubleshooting. The app itself doesn't log amounts or descriptions.
No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach affecting your data, we'll tell you by email.
Your email address is used to sign in, confirm your account and reset your password. We won't send marketing email or share your address.
Your choices
- You can see and edit everything you've entered, at any time, within the app.
- You can delete your account from your account settings. This removes your sign-in details.
- To have your household's financial data deleted as well, or for a copy of it, contact us and we'll take care of it.
Children
myfainance isn't intended for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. If a change matters (for example, a new kind of data being collected), we'll let you know by email.
